PAT testing itself is not a legal requirement, but the law does require that electrical equipment is maintained in a safe condition. For businesses, landlords, and anyone using equipment professionally, PAT testing is the recognised way to demonstrate compliance with health and safety regulations.

Most universities and student accommodation providers require electrical appliances to have been PAT tested before they can be used in halls of residence. Check with your university, but it's best to get your items tested before you arrive to avoid having them confiscated.

The frequency depends on the type of equipment and how it's used. For most portable appliances, annual testing is recommended. Equipment used in harsh environments or moved frequently may need testing more often. We can advise on the appropriate testing schedule for your equipment.

Almost any electrical appliance with a plug can be PAT tested, including: kettles, toasters, microwaves, computers, printers, power tools, extension leads, phone chargers, hair dryers, straighteners, DJ equipment, amplifiers, and much more.

We primarily offer in-store PAT testing at our Birkenhead shop, which keeps costs low for our customers. For businesses with large quantities of equipment, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Each item typically takes just a few minutes to test. For small quantities, you can wait while we test your items. For larger quantities, we may ask you to leave items with us and collect them later the same day.

Each item that passes will receive a PAT testing label showing the test date. You'll also receive a certificate listing all tested items, which you can use as proof of testing for your university, insurance company, or venue.
